How To Ask for MLM Referrals

One of the most undervalued ways to build your MLM business is asking for referrals.  Did you know its actually impossible to run out of leads if you ask everyone who says no to you for referrals?  Now not everyone is going to give you referrals and that’s ok.  In today’s post I’m going to give you a script on exactly what I say to get MLM referrals.

MLM Referral Script

“hey mr prospect thank you so much for taking your time to look at what I have to offer I really appreciate uou.  I understand that this biz is not for everyone. But I know everyone knows some ppl that I can help.  Can u give me a couple names and numbers of ppl that are open to making extra money? Like who would b the first 2 ppl u share this with if u were doing this?”

“Can you think of anyone who would be good at what I do?”

“Who is the "how to ask for mlm referrals"most enthusiactic/hardworking person you know?”

“Do you know anyone who…

  • has been in this kind of business before
  • talks about having his/her own business
  • is looking for extra work or part time work
  • wears a lot of jewlry
  • has fabulous skin
  • likes herbs/ and oils
  • likes silver and gold
  • works at health club
  • recently sold or is trying to sell a business
  • has lots of friends

After this I would then ask, “what do you admire most about him or her?” So when you call this referral you say, hey mr. referral, my friend Susan gave me your number and she says you are the hardest working person she knows.” Then go into how your normally invite or simply ask if they “would be open to a lucrative side project if it doesn’t interfere with what their currently doing.”

Boom, pretty simple stuff.

3 Things Happen When You Ask for Referrals

1. You get some great referrals and recruit into your business.  Then before you sign up your new referred rep you call the person that gave you the referrals and let them know that their friend Jonny Networker is grabbing a spot and see if they want to join and have Jonny Networker on their team.  Bam you just got two reps instead of one!

2.  The person your asking starts thinking about who would be good for your business and then by thinking about this they realize they know plenty of people that would be great business builders.  They may join right there or kick it around a bit and may or may not join when you follow up in the future.

3.  They blow you off.  So what, they already said no anyway right?  So nothing to lose.  What I typically here is, “I don’t know anyone,” “if I think of anyone I’ll send em your way,” “no one I know would be interested in this,” or my favorite “yea sure I’ll ask around for you.”  Don’t worry about this one.  I always like to say, ” you know John, because of the amount of networking I do I meet a ton of people, who is your ideal client that I can refer to you!?”

    Hi Ron,

    Really digging this tip!

    No such thing as someone closing a door in your face. No doesn’t mean no opportunity. It can be a prospering gateway, an opportunity to meet other people who are a better fit for your home based opportunity.

    I also like your “nothing to lose” mindset. Each perceived loss is a gain. You gain experience, you gain one extra step closer to making a sale and most of all, you gain the invaluable habit of being doggedly persistent.

    Hi Ron,

    These are some great referral tips. I’ve found that referrals is definitely one of the best ways to get new leads. If you treat your customers right, you can get plenty of referrals.

    Sometimes, I even give incentives for referrals. For instance, for any referral who joins my business, or buys a product, I might give the referrer a cash bonus or discount on the products.

    @Charles Holmes – Chuck thats a great idea!! One thing I do is for every rep I sign I pay the referee my upfront commission of $100 a head.
