Overcoming Adversity

Overcoming Adversity

What Does It Mean, Why, and How Long Does It Last?

How many of you have had a big dream that seems to be on the back burner right now, how many of you have a dream but don’t have the resources, finances, physical strength and perhaps mental toughness to realize that dream !? Is it over, is that lost, what happened!?

Why do we have to have tough times, why do they last so long, and ok enough is enough how do I fight back?

Today’s podcast we are diving deep into the subject of Overcoming Adversity.

Doesn’t it always feel like when one thing happens, soon as that storm is over another one pops us, seems to be relentless.

I am so happy we serve a good God and he is not the author of adversity, setback nad pain. You see it’s the enemy that comes to kill steal and destroy. Jesus has come so that all that believe in him may have eternal life.

Lets clear this up. We can see this most apparent in the book of JOB.

James 1:2-4 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Sometimes in adversity it feels like God isn’t there, you can’t hear him, you don’t feel connected, WHY? Whats the deal with that!!?

We have to remember, that he promised to never leave us nor forsake us.

overcoming_adversityRomans 8:38,39 For I am sure that neither earth nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Why do we experience adversity?Anytime we are allowed to experience adversity I think God is watching to see how we will respond.

Joshua and Caleb or will be like the 8 other spies who didn’t go into the promised land

Adversity Enters Into Our Lives for Several Reasons

1. Its just life and bad stuff happens sometimes

2. Again the enemy comes to kill steal destroy

3. We make poor choices and decisions

4. Testing, to build us up

5. Word and wilderness test

Why do we have adversity

You can ask for help, promises of rescue and peace is made to you! Remember Adversity is only temporary

Isaiah 26:3,4 You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Jesus’ words)

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (Jesus’ words)

Philippians 4:6,7 … do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

How Do We Fight Back Often times its not that we need to pray to be rescued, its that we need to pray for God to give us the strength to get through adversity. 1 Chronicles 16:11 ESV / 181 helpful votes

“Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually! “

What do you know to be true!? What the does the bible say about your situation.

1. Power of Confessing The Word That Is The Truth that is opposite of your adversity

2. Prayer for the strength to get through this, and what he would like you to learn and realize during this time. Pray psalm 91

3. When you have done all else, stand in faith, remember call #2 – James 1:12 ESV / 558 helpful votes

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

Ephesians 6:13

10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 10Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength.

11Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 11Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 11Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil.

12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 12For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.

13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

You must choose today who is going to have victory in your life! Is it you recognizing that you can be all that he says you are, that you have access to the promises of God, will you have the toughness and perseverance to keep going and keep getting knocked down.

Who is the victor here! You Are.

And I leave you with these 2 verses

Philipains 4 :13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Romans 8:28 God uses all things together for good for those that love him and are called according to his purpose!

I challenge you to make yourself aware of Romans 8:28 in the midst of your adversity, ask yourself how can I see his love in this, God show me your hand in my life and situation, make me aware.
